You don't need special audio equipment to get started with Pandora CloudCover. In most cases, you just need three things:
An internet connection
A device to stream Pandora CloudCover
A sound system or speakers
1. Choose a device to stream from
Pandora CloudCover can play from several types of devices:
CloudBox
The CloudBox is our dedicated streaming player and the most popular option for businesses that want a reliable, set-it-and-forget-it setup.
Once connected to the internet and your sound system, the CloudBox can automatically play the music, messages, and schedules.
The CloudBox also provides benefits such as:
Automatically resumes playback after a restart or power outage
Locally stored music that can continue playing during internet interruptions
Remote control, including volume
Tamper-resistant operation with no on-device controls, helping prevent unauthorized changes
Ethernet or Wi-Fi connectivity
3.5mm/RCA, Bluetooth, HDMI, and SPDIF audio connection options
CloudBoxes can be ordered directly from your Pandora CloudCover account.
Computer
You can stream directly from a supported web browser on a Mac or PC.
Connect the computer to your speakers, amplifier, or receiver using the appropriate audio cable or a supported wireless connection.
This can be a simple way to get started, but the computer must remain powered on and available for playback.
Mobile device
You can also stream using the Pandora CloudCover app on a supported iPhone, iPad, Android device, or Fire device.
Connect the device to your sound system using an available wired or wireless connection, such as Bluetooth, AirPlay, or Chromecast.
Sonos
If your business already uses Sonos, Pandora CloudCover can be added as a music service and streamed directly through compatible Sonos equipment.
2. Connect your player to your sound system
Your streaming device needs to connect to the speakers your customers hear.
Depending on your equipment, that might include:
Powered speakers
An amplifier or receiver connected to wired speakers
Bluetooth speakers
Sonos or another compatible networked speaker system
The exact connection depends on both your streaming device and your audio equipment.
3. Control what's playing
Once your equipment is connected, you can use Pandora CloudCover to select and control the music playing in your business.
Depending on your plan and setup, you can also manage playback remotely, create music schedules, control multiple locations, and manage audio messages and digital signage.
What setup do we recommend?
For a simple trial or single-location setup, streaming from a computer or mobile device may be all you need.
For a permanent business installation, we generally recommend a CloudBox. Because it's a dedicated player, it doesn't depend on an employee's computer or phone, can continue playing during temporary internet interruptions, automatically restarts playback after a power outage, and has no on-device controls that can be used to make unauthorized playback changes.
Already have Sonos? You may be able to use your existing Sonos system without adding a separate streaming player.
Using digital signage?
Digital signage requires a CloudBox connected to a TV or commercial display using HDMI. The TV or display itself is not provided by Pandora CloudCover.
