Using Dayparts with Sonos on Pandora CloudCover
By default, Pandora CloudCover dayparts do not work reliably when streaming to Sonos systems. Sonos treats playback as a continuous session and does not consistently honor background stop or station change commands. Because of this behavior, dayparts only work on Sonos when audio is scheduled to play continuously 24/7. A supported workaround is to use the CloudCover Silent Station. The Silent Station plays no music and outputs only silence, allowing Sonos to remain in an active playback state while still giving you full control over when music is audible.
If you do not see the Silent Station available in your stations list, contact CloudCover Support and request it to be added.
What You Will Need
Pandora CloudCover Support: Contact the support team to request the addition of the Silent Station to your account.
Sonos Speaker: Ensure you have a Sonos speaker connected to CloudCover.
CloudCover Dashboard Access: Access to the CloudCover dashboard is necessary.
Sonos App: Make sure you have the Sonos app available for use at your location.
Step-by-Step Setup
1. Create or Edit Your Daypart
Navigate to Account > Dayparting, then select the green Create Daypart button to create a new daypart.
Create a new daypart schedule and assign the desired stations to the hours when you want music to play.
Next, schedule the Silent Station during the time ranges when you do not want music to play.
Be sure to configure the schedule for each day of the week and confirm that either a music station or the Silent Station is scheduled 24/7. Do not leave any gaps in the schedule, as Sonos requires continuous playback for this method to work correctly.
2. Apply the Schedule to Your Sonos Location
In tune, navigate to the zones page and set the daypart to play at your location
Next, in the Sonos App Select "Select station remotely" as your choice of station
Best Practices and Tips
To ensure effective dayparting on Sonos, you need to schedule stations to play 24/7. Always include the Silent Station during off-hours.
If your newly created daypart isn't visible in the Sonos app, try closing and reopening the app to reset its cache.
Summary
Continuous Playback: Schedule music stations to play 24/7 for effective dayparting on Sonos.
Silent Station: Use the CloudCover Silent Station during off-hours to maintain playback without music.
No Gaps: Ensure there are no gaps in your schedule; every time period should be filled.
