Streaming from a CloudBox using a Sonos Port

The Sonos Port is the best way to connect your CloudBox to a Sonos system for a stable, professional-grade streaming experience. Using a direct wired connection between the CloudBox and the Port ensures consistent playback, even during network interruptions, while giving you full control through the Sonos app.

What You’ll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Your CloudBox streaming device (powered on and connected to your network)

  • A TRRS to RCA audio cable (included with all CloudBoxes)

  • The Sonos mobile app (iOS or Android) installed and connected to your Sonos system

Connect the CloudBox to the Sonos Port

  1. Locate the Audio Out port on the CloudBox.

    • This is a TRRS (headphone-style) jack that outputs left/right audio using the provided TRRS to RCA cable.

  2. Plug the TRRS end of the cable into the CloudBox audio output.

  3. Connect the red and white RCA ends into the Line-In ports on the Sonos Port (match colors for left/right).

  4. Ensure both devices are powered on and connected to the same network.

Configure Line-In in the Sonos App

Once connected, the Sonos Port will detect the line-in signal automatically.

Follow these steps to start playback:

  1. Open the Sonos app on your mobile device.

  2. Tap Browse → Line-In.

  3. Select the Sonos Port (or whatever name you’ve given it).

  4. Tap Play Now to begin streaming CloudCover Music from your CloudBox.

  5. To make this easier in the future, you can set the Port to AutoPlay when it detects a signal:

    • Go to Settings → System → [Your Sonos Port] → Line-In → Autoplay Room, and choose the room where you want playback to start.

4. Why Use a Sonos Port with CloudBox?

Connecting a CloudBox to a Sonos Port offers several key advantages:

  • Local playback continues even if Wi-Fi or internet drops.

  • Full compatibility with Sonos system zones and grouped speakers.

  • Professional reliability ideal for business or commercial environments.

  • Enhanced flexibility—stream CloudCover through Sonos and manage scheduling, volume, or zones from your CloudBox dashboard.
