Can I Power My CloudBox Using PoE?
Yes! While the CloudBox doesn’t support Power over Ethernet (PoE) directly, you can use a PoE splitter to safely power it using your existing network infrastructure.
This setup is ideal for clean installations — like equipment racks, server rooms, or ceilings — especially when you want to use power that’s already coming from a central, backup-protected switch or UPS.
What Is PoE?
Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows a single Ethernet cable to carry both data and power. It’s commonly used for devices like IP cameras, phones, and wireless access points. If your network switch supports PoE (or you’re using a PoE injector), you can also use that same power source for your CloudBox — with the help of a small adapter.
How It Works with the CloudBox
The CloudBox uses a 5V 2A DC power supply with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel connector. To use PoE, you’ll need a PoE splitter that:
Accepts 48V PoE input (standard IEEE 802.3af)
Outputs 5V at 2A
Has a 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel plug that matches the CloudBox power input
Once connected, the PoE splitter draws power from your PoE-enabled switch or injector and converts it to the correct voltage and connector for your CloudBox.
Recommended PoE Adapters
These splitters have been tested with CloudBox devices and are known to work well:
Converts 48V PoE to 5V 2.4A
Comes with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel plug
Simple plug-and-play design
Also converts 48V to 5V at 2.4A
Outputs to a USB Type-A female port
Note: The CloudBox can also be powered through its USB port, but using this splitter requires a USB Type-A male to male cable to connect the splitter’s USB output to the CloudBox.
Use this if your switch does not support PoE
Adds PoE power to Ethernet lines
Still requires one of the splitters above at the CloudBox end
